Energizer® Change Your Clock Change Your Battery® Social Media Campaign
Each year Energizer® donates 200,000 batteries to fire departments across the country during Daylight Saving Time through the 23-year-strong Change Your Clock Change Your Battery® program. This year, through the new Now That’s Positive EnergyTM campaign and the utilization of a custom Facebook presence – the power was given to the people to double the donation!
As part of our ongoing partnership with the Energizer® Facebook campaign, Matchbox Design Group teamed with Blick & Staff Communications to develop a custom Facebook Tab and Application for the Change Your Clock Change Your Battery® program. The campaign goal was to engage users within Facebook to like the Energizer® Bunny Facebook Page and interact with the campaign by Pledging, Sharing and Planning to help the battery donation.
Breaking Down the Campaign
Facebook users arrive to a branded message about the campaign. From this CYCCYB tab they can enter the Application landing page or may directly “Plan” (launch the floor plan builder), “Share” (share the message on Facebook and Twitter) and “Pledge” (sign up for the Facebook event to change their clock and smoke detector batteries on November 7.) The users are informed from each of the three actions a set number of batteries are donated – 5 for plan, 3 for share and 1 for pledge.

APPLICATION Once Facebook users launch (prompting the user to “like” the Energizer® Bunny page if they have not already) the Application, they see more of a in-depth look into the contents and are able to further interact with the campaign. From the Application they may Plan, Share and Pledge and also may learn more about the campaign, get safety materials, volunteer, read about firefighting heroes and enter to win. A real-time Battery Donation Meter charts the progress of the campaign.

Image Rotator An exciting feature of the Application is the “Image Rotator” – a design element created by Matchbox Design Group as a way to reinforce the campaign message and add visual communicate the aspects of the campaign within the Facebook Application. Each rotator also directly links to actions in the application, such as the RSVP to event.
Below are the 6 image rotators, featuring messages relevant to portions of the campaign – with corresponding imagery.

Once Facebook users RSVP to the event / pledge to change their smoke alarm batteries on November 7, they RSVP to a Facebook event and three batteries are donated.
Pop-Up Information Pages From the top navigation, Facebook users can select an item and up pops a page, lightboxing over the Application, that gives them more detailed information about the particular menu item. Below are the pop-up pages, including About the Campaign, Information Station, Volunteer, Celebrating Heroes and Enter to Win.
About the Campaign tells more about the history of the Change Your Clock Change Your Battery program and contains the PSA. The Information Station contains safety materials -such as a Safety Checklist – that may be downloaded by the Facebook user. Users may key in their zip code in the Volunteer pop-up to find a local firehouse nearby to volunteer with non-fire-related tasks.
